Further Leave to Remain

FLR is when you apply online to extend your existing visa to stay in the UK (also known as ‘leave to remain’) and also get a biometric residence permit to evidence the same.


Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for further leave to remain, you must read the guide for your current visa to find out whether you can extend your stay and how you can do that before applying for an extension.

You may be able to extend your stay under the following categories for FLR*;

  • as a UK Armed Forces
  • with Discretionary Leave (if you have been refused asylum)
  • on the basis of Family and Private Life
  • As a Grenfell Tower survivor granted limited leave outside the Immigration Rules
  • With Human Rights Claims/leave outside the rules
  • On the basis of Long Residence
  • As a Partner or child of a person settled in the UK as a refugee or under humanitarian protection
  • As a Stateless person (person not recognised as a national of any country)


You must meet and satisfy the relevant requirements under the Immigration Rules in order to apply for Further Leave to Remain.
